Job Summary
Houston Skilled Consultancy is seeking a dedicated and experienced Home-Based Payroll Specialist to join our team. In this remote role, you will be responsible for managing payroll processing, ensuring timely and accurate salary disbursements, and maintaining compliance with all regulatory requirements. This position requires an individual with strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. You will play a vital role in supporting the HR and finance departments by overseeing all payroll-related tasks for our clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Payroll Management: Process weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly payrolls for employees, ensuring all calculations (salaries, overtime, deductions) are accurate and timely.
- Tax Compliance: Ensure payroll is processed in compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws, including reporting and remitting taxes, preparing W-2 forms, and other payroll tax filings.
- Employee Records: Maintain accurate employee payroll records and ensure proper documentation for all payroll transactions.
- Audit & Reporting: Generate payroll reports, perform audits to ensure accuracy, and resolve discrepancies when they arise.
- Benefits Administration: Oversee the integration of benefits data into payroll systems, including deductions for insurance, retirement plans, and other employee benefits.
- Communication & Support: Respond to employee queries regarding payroll, deductions, and benefits, providing timely resolutions to issues or concerns.
- System Maintenance: Utilize payroll software to ensure system updates and data integrity are maintained.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Proven Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in payroll administration or a related field.
- Educational Background: Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
- Technical Proficiency: Experience using payroll software (e.g., ADP, QuickBooks, Paychex, etc.).
- Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail in payroll processing and record-keeping.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Strong knowledge of payroll tax laws and compliance, including FLSA, IRS guidelines, and state/local tax regulations.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to identify discrepancies and resolve payroll issues efficiently.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with employees and stakeholders effectively.
- Confidentiality: Strong understanding of confidentiality and the handling of sensitive financial data.
Experience
- A minimum of 2-3 years of experience as a Payroll Specialist or in a similar position, preferably in a remote or home-based setting.
- Experience working with large-scale payroll systems and managing complex payroll functions for multiple employees.
