Job Summary:

Home Depot is seeking a Senior Principal Software Engineer specializing in Reliability Engineering to join our dynamic team. As a Senior Principal Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing, implementing, and maintaining reliable software systems that scale across our organization. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and design high-availability, scalable, and fault-tolerant systems for Home Depots software infrastructure.
  • Develop software solutions and engineering practices focused on improving reliability, efficiency, and performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and implement software solutions that align with business goals and customer needs.
  • Monitor, diagnose, and improve system performance, uptime, and efficiency by creating automation, proactive monitoring tools, and alerts.
  • Drive the adoption of industry best practices for reliability engineering across teams.
  • Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers and influence engineering practices across the organization.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues, identify root causes, and implement long-term solutions.
  • Manage and drive large projects, ensuring all milestones and goals are met on time and within scope.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Proven experience (8+ years) in software engineering, with a focus on reliability engineering, DevOps, or site reliability engineering (SRE).
  • Strong knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Expertise in programming languages such as Python, Java, Go, or C++.
  • Solid understanding of distributed systems, microservices architectures, and databases (SQL, NoSQL).
  • Experience implementing and managing continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
  • Proficiency in monitoring tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, New Relic) and incident management platforms (e.g., PagerDuty).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills with an ability to thrive in high-pressure environments.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across various teams and stakeholders.

Experience:

  • 8+ years of experience in software engineering with a focus on system reliability, scalability, and performance.
  • Significant experience in managing large-scale, complex systems in a production environment.
  • Proven track record in leading reliability initiatives, driving operational excellence, and reducing downtime.
  • Prior experience in leading cross-functional teams and mentoring junior engineers.
  • Hands-on experience in cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes.

Working Hours:

  • This is a fully remote position with flexible working hours.
  • The candidate will be expected to work in sync with the Home Depot engineering teams hours, typically from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM EST, with some flexibility based on individual time zones.

  • Knowledge of Reliability Engineering Practices: In-depth knowledge of reliability best practices, including fault tolerance, high availability, disaster recovery, and capacity planning.
  • Strong Technical Skills: Expertise in cloud computing, systems architecture, and the ability to write high-quality code that is robust and scalable.
  • Leadership Abilities: Ability to lead technical teams and influence engineering practices and culture across the organization.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong troubleshooting skills to identify issues and provide innovative solutions to complex technical challenges.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to communicate complex technical issues to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
