Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Derrickman to manage drilling equipment and operations on oil rigs. The Derrickman will play a crucial role in supporting the drilling process by handling drill pipes, maintaining mud systems, and ensuring all equipment is in optimal condition. This position requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain drilling and mud equipment, including the derrick and mud pumps.
- Assist in running and retrieving drill pipes and other downhole tools.
- Monitor and manage the flow of drilling fluids in the mud system.
- Perform regular inspections and maintenance of derrick-related equipment.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and standards at all times.
- Support the drilling team during rig operations and resolve technical issues efficiently.
- Report equipment malfunctions or hazards to the Driller or Rig Manager promptly.
- Train and mentor junior crew members in proper handling of equipment and safety procedures.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (a degree in engineering or a related field is a plus).
- Certification in rig safety and derrick operations (e.g., IWCF, IADC).
- Physical stamina and ability to work in challenging environments.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Knowledge of mud systems, drilling fluids, and rig operations.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a similar role on an oil rig.
- Proven track record of working with drilling and mud equipment.
- Familiarity with offshore or onshore rig environments.
Working Hours
- Rotational shifts, typically 12-hour shifts on a 28/28 or 21/21 schedule (days on/off).
- Flexibility to work extended hours during critical operations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Comprehensive understanding of oil rig operations and drilling equipment.
- Ability to perform under pressure in physically demanding conditions.
- Proficiency in adhering to HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) regulations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
