Job Summary

Progressive Technology is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Medical Coding Specialist to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in ensuring accurate and compliant coding of medical records, which is essential for billing and maintaining the integrity of our healthcare services. You will work closely with healthcare providers, billing departments, and insurance companies to facilitate proper reimbursement and optimize patient care through accurate documentation.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and analyze medical documentation to assign accurate codes for diagnoses, procedures, and services rendered using ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
• Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, as well as insurance policies.
• Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation and improve coding accuracy.
• Conduct audits of medical records to identify coding discrepancies and provide feedback for improvement.
• Stay updated on changes in coding guidelines, healthcare regulations, and reimbursement policies.
• Assist in the development of coding policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency.
• Provide training and support to clinical staff regarding proper documentation practices.
• Participate in quality assurance initiatives and contribute to departmental reporting metrics.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; an associates degree in health information management or a related field is preferred.
• Certification as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) is required.
• Proficiency in medical coding software and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
• Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
• Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with healthcare teams.

Experience

• A minimum of 2 years of experience in medical coding within a healthcare setting.
• Experience in inpatient and outpatient coding preferred.
• Familiarity with billing processes and insurance verification is a plus.
