This role is designed for a professional who combines a strong understanding of optometry with expertise in medical coding. The successful candidate will be responsible for accurately translating optometric diagnoses and procedures into standardized medical codes, ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines and facilitating seamless billing and insurance processes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Accurately code optometric diagnoses, treatments, and procedures using ICD-10, CPT, and other relevant coding systems.
• Review and analyze medical records to determine appropriate codes for various optometric services.
• Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation and ensure accurate coding.
• Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including HIPAA and insurance regulations.
• Conduct regular audits of coding practices to identify and correct errors.
• Assist in the development and implementation of coding policies and procedures.
• Provide training and support to other healthcare staff on coding-related matters.
• Stay updated with the latest coding changes and developments in the optometric field.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree or equivalent professional qualification.
• Certification or accreditation in medical coding (e.g., CPC, CCA) is preferred.
• Proven experience in medical coding within the optometry or healthcare sector.
• Strong understanding of ICD-10, CPT, and other coding systems.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in medical coding software and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
• Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Experience:

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in medical coding, with at least 1 year in an optometry-specific role.
• Experience with coding audits and compliance checks is advantageous.
• Demonstrated experience in working with healthcare professionals to clarify and validate documentation.

Working Hours:

• Full-time position, 40 hours per week.
