The Elite Job is seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Remote Senior Payroll Specialist – Multi-State US Payroll to join our growing finance and operations team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing and processing payroll operations across multiple U.S. states while ensuring full compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.

The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, deep knowledge of payroll systems, and a thorough understanding of tax regulations and employment laws across various jurisdictions. This fully remote role requires a proactive professional who can manage sensitive payroll data, maintain accuracy, and collaborate effectively with HR, finance, and compliance teams.

Key Responsibilities

Process end-to-end payroll for employees across multiple U.S. states with high accuracy and confidentiality.

Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations and employment laws.

Manage payroll systems and maintain payroll records, ensuring accurate employee compensation and deductions.

Reconcile payroll reports, tax filings, and general ledger entries.

Coordinate with HR to ensure employee data changes (hires, terminations, promotions, benefits deductions) are accurately reflected in payroll.

Prepare and submit payroll tax filings and ensure timely payments to regulatory agencies.

Handle payroll audits, internal compliance checks, and reporting requirements.

Respond to employee payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.

Collaborate with finance teams to support month-end and year-end closing processes.

Stay updated on payroll legislation changes affecting multi-state payroll processing.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field.

Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or similar certification preferred.

Strong knowledge of U.S. payroll tax laws, wage regulations, and compliance requirements.

Experience with payroll software such as ADP, Workday, Paychex, or similar platforms.

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and payroll reporting tools.

Excellent attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.

Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and integrity.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration.

Experience

Minimum 5–8 years of payroll processing experience, with at least 3 years handling multi-state U.S. payroll operations.

Experience managing payroll for mid-sized or large organizations is highly preferred.

Proven experience in payroll audits, tax reporting, and compliance management.

Working Hours
