Job Summary

Houston Skilled Consultancy is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Embedded/FPGA Engineer – Hardware Design to join our remote engineering team. In this role, you will design and implement complex digital hardware systems, develop firmware, and contribute to the innovation and optimization of embedded systems. This is a fully remote opportunity ideal for professionals passionate about digital logic design, FPGA/ASIC workflows, and embedded systems architecture.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop FPGA-based hardware architectures using VHDL or Verilog.

  • Integrate and test embedded systems using microcontrollers, SoCs, or DSPs.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define hardware and firmware requirements.

  • Perform timing analysis, simulation, synthesis, and debugging on FPGA platforms (e.g., Xilinx, Intel/Altera).

  • Develop low-level software (firmware) for embedded devices including bootloaders and real-time operating systems (RTOS).

  • Optimize performance, power consumption, and memory footprint for embedded applications.

  • Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation including design specifications, test plans, and user manuals.

  • Participate in design reviews and provide expert feedback on system integration and test procedures.


Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Strong proficiency in VHDL/Verilog, SystemVerilog, and digital design principles.

  • Solid experience with FPGA platforms such as Xilinx (Vivado/ISE) or Intel/Altera (Quartus).

  • Proficiency in embedded C/C++ programming for microcontrollers and SoCs.

  • Experience in scripting languages (Python, Tcl, Bash) for build automation and test scripting.

  • Familiarity with communication protocols like SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, Ethernet.

  • Strong understanding of hardware debugging tools like oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and JTAG debuggers.

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.


Experience

  • 3+ years of experience in embedded systems design and FPGA development.

  • Hands-on experience with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing or simulation tools.

  • Experience working in agile product development environments is a plus.

  • Previous experience in remote collaboration and using version control tools (e.g., Git) is highly desirable.


Working Hours

  • Full-time: 40 hours per week

  • Flexible working hours with a focus on collaboration across international teams

  • Core hours: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM IST (or equivalent in your local time zone)
