Job Summary
We are seeking a qualified Civil Engineer to join the City of Austins dynamic team. As a Civil Engineer, you will be responsible for planning, designing, and overseeing the construction and maintenance of infrastructure projects that impact the citys growth and development. Your expertise will ensure the efficient and sustainable delivery of public services, such as transportation networks, stormwater systems, utilities, and urban development. Key Responsibilities
- Design & Planning: Prepare detailed designs, plans, and specifications for a variety of civil engineering projects, including roads, bridges, drainage systems, and utilities.
- Project Management: Oversee the execution of infrastructure projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
- Analysis & Assessments: Conduct site assessments, geological studies, and environmental impact assessments to inform project designs and decisions.
- Collaboration: Work closely with multidisciplinary teams including architects, urban planners, and contractors to ensure the successful delivery of projects.
- Permitting & Compliance: Navigate the permitting process, ensuring compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, including environmental and zoning laws.
- Maintenance & Repair: Support the maintenance and inspection of existing infrastructure to ensure their continued safe and efficient operation.
- Reporting & Documentation: Prepare reports, proposals, and presentations for city officials, stakeholders, and the public.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay updated with the latest trends in civil engineering technologies and methodologies, contributing to the advancement of engineering practices.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering or related field (required).
- Professional Engineer (PE) license, or the ability to obtain one within a specified time frame (preferred).
- Strong proficiency in civil engineering design software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with stakeholders, city officials, and project teams.
- In-depth knowledge of civil engineering principles, construction processes, and materials.
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and analytical skills.
- Familiarity with municipal regulations, zoning codes, and environmental standards.
Experience
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in civil engineering, with a focus on public infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges, utilities, or environmental engineering.
- Experience managing large-scale projects and working within city planning frameworks is highly desirable.
- Proven track record of successful project completion, particularly in urban and municipal settings.
Working Hours
- Standard working hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, with flexibility for occasional overtime as project deadlines require.
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be necessary to meet project milestones or respond to emergency situations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Technical Expertise: Solid understanding of engineering principles and practices, including structural analysis, geotechnical engineering, and construction management.
- Software Skills: Proficient in the use of industry-standard design tools (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Microsoft Office Suite, etc.).
- Problem-Solving: Excellent ability to identify issues and provide innovative solutions to overcome technical and logistical challenges.
- Leadership & Collaboration: Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage teams and collaborate effectively with other departments, contractors, and the community.
