Job Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and motivated Special Education Teaching Assistant to join our team in Singapore. This role involves supporting students with diverse learning needs, ensuring their educational and personal growth. As a Special Education Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the lead teacher to provide individualized support, create a positive learning environment, and assist in the delivery of specialized educational programs. Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the lead teacher in implementing individualized educational programs (IEPs) for students with special needs.
- Provide one-on-one and small group support to students during lessons, ensuring they can participate in activities and complete tasks.
- Help in managing the classroom environment, ensuring safety, and supporting the inclusion of students in all activities.
- Assist in preparing teaching materials, organizing resources, and setting up learning activities.
- Monitor and record students' progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents as needed.
- Support students with personal care needs, including feeding, toileting, and mobility assistance when required.
- Collaborate with other support staff and professionals to deliver effective interventions.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful classroom atmosphere.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Diploma or degree in Special Education, Early Childhood Education, or a related field.
- Previous experience working with children, particularly in special education settings, is preferred.
- Knowledge of various disabilities and learning challenges (e.g., Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Dyslexia).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Patient, empathetic, and understanding nature with a passion for working with children.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Experience:
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience working with children in educational or caregiving roles, preferably in special education.
- Experience in implementing or assisting with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) is an advantage.
- Familiarity with behavior management strategies and techniques for students with special needs.
Working Hours:
- Full-time, 40 hours per week.
- Monday to Friday, with occasional evenings or weekends for meetings or training.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Understanding of special education laws, policies, and best practices.
- Ability to create a supportive, patient, and inclusive learning environment.
- Familiarity with assistive technologies and teaching aids used in special education.
- Proficiency in using educational software and tools.
- Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet the individual needs of students.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to addressing challenges in the classroom.
