Job Summary


New York City Jobs is seeking a dedicated and motivated Part-Time Online High School Teaching Assistant to support our online education programs based on the U.S. curriculum. This role provides an opportunity to assist teachers in delivering high-quality instruction, monitoring student progress, and fostering a positive online learning environment. The ideal candidate will be passionate about education, technology-friendly, and capable of supporting students in a virtual setting.




Key Responsibilities



  • Assist lead teachers with online lesson delivery and classroom management.

  • Monitor and support student engagement, participation, and progress.

  • Provide one-on-one or small group support to students who need extra assistance.

  • Grade assignments, quizzes, and assessments according to teacher guidelines.

  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, performance, and communications.

  • Collaborate with teachers to develop instructional materials and resources.

  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and the teaching team.

  • Support the integration of educational technology tools into learning activities.




Required Skills and Qualifications



  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, or a related field preferred.

  • Strong understanding of U.S. high school curriculum standards.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proficiency in online teaching platforms (Zoom, Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams).

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and support students individually and in groups.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Patience, adaptability, and a positive attitude toward student learning.




Experience



  • Previous experience as a teaching assistant, tutor, or in an educational support role is preferred.

  • Experience working with high school students in an online or hybrid environment is a plus.

  • Familiarity with remote learning tools and digital classroom management.




Working Hours



  • Part-time role (10–20 hours per week).

  • Flexible scheduling to accommodate student sessions, primarily after school hours (U.S. Eastern Time).

  • Some occasional weekend hours may be required for special projects or parent meetings.




Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities



  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with students and colleagues.

  • Ability to work independently in a virtual environment while following structured guidelines.

  • Knowledge of online teaching best practices and student engagement strategies.

  • Familiarity with digital tools for grading, reporting, and classroom communication.

  • Problem-solving skills to assist students with academic challenges.
