Job Summary
AGS Health is seeking a detail-oriented and highly skilled Medical Coding Specialist to join our growing team remotely. This role focuses on accurately translating healthcare services and diagnoses into standardized medical codes for billing, compliance, and reporting purposes. As a Medical Coding Specialist at AGS Health, you will play a vital role in ensuring the integrity of patient data, supporting revenue cycle operations, and contributing to the overall efficiency of healthcare administration.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately assign ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes to diagnoses, procedures, and services based on clinical documentation.
- Review and analyze patient records, physician notes, and other medical documentation to ensure proper coding compliance.
- Ensure adherence to HIPAA regulations, coding guidelines, and payer-specific requirements.
- Identify and resolve discrepancies in coding and documentation.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers, billing teams, and auditors to clarify documentation and improve coding accuracy.
- Maintain updated knowledge of coding rules, regulations, and industry best practices.
- Participate in audits and quality checks to ensure coding accuracy and compliance.
- Assist in reporting and data analysis to support operational and financial objectives.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or equivalent credential required.
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, anatomy, and clinical procedures.
- Proficient in using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems and coding software.
- Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for collaboration with healthcare teams.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload in a remote work environment.
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years of medical coding experience in a hospital, clinic, or insurance setting.
- Experience with remote work environments is preferred.
- Experience in auditing and quality assurance is a plus.
Working Hours
- This is a full-time remote position.
- Flexible hours with occasional overlap required with standard business hours (typically 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM, local time).
- Occasional overtime may be required based on workload or project deadlines.
