Job Summary
Saia LTL Freight is seeking a highly motivated and safety-conscious CDL Local Pickup & Delivery (P&D) Driver to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for the timely and safe transportation of freight within your designated local area. You will interact directly with customers, ensuring excellent service while maintaining compliance with all federal and state regulations. The ideal candidate is reliable, professional, and committed to excellence in delivery operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate a commercial vehicle to perform local pickup and delivery (P&D) of freight.
- Adhere to all DOT and company safety regulations, including pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
- Plan routes efficiently to ensure timely deliveries while optimizing fuel and time.
- Maintain accurate delivery logs, including electronic logging device (ELD) records.
- Load and unload freight, ensuring proper handling and documentation.
- Provide exceptional customer service by communicating effectively and professionally.
- Report any vehicle maintenance needs, accidents, or incidents promptly to management.
- Assist in warehouse operations as needed, including staging, sorting, and securing freight.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a clean driving record.
- Knowledge of local routes and traffic patterns preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to handle freight carefully.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Familiarity with electronic logging devices (ELDs) and basic record-keeping.
- Physical ability to lift, push, or pull freight as required (up to 50 lbs or more).
Experience
- Minimum of 1–2 years of local driving experience in freight delivery or logistics preferred.
- Previous experience in LTL freight operations is an advantage.
- Experience with customer-facing delivery roles is a plus.
Working Hours
- Full-time, typically Monday through Friday, with potential for occasional weekend shifts.
- Hours may vary based on delivery schedules and operational demands.
- Overtime may be available and compensated according to company policy.

- In-depth knowledge of safety regulations and commercial vehicle operation.
- Ability to read and interpret shipping documents and delivery instructions.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple deliveries efficiently.
