Job Summary:
Shaffer Trucking, a leader in freight transportation across the United States, is seeking dedicated and safety-conscious CDL OTR Refrigerated Truck Drivers to join our growing team. As a key member of our operations, you will be responsible for delivering perishable goods efficiently and safely, maintaining the integrity of refrigerated shipments, and representing Shaffer Trucking with professionalism on every route. Key Responsibilities:
- Operate and maintain a refrigerated (reefer) truck to transport perishable goods over long distances (OTR – Over the Road).
- Ensure safe and timely delivery of goods while adhering to all DOT regulations, traffic laws, and company policies.
- Inspect vehicles before and after trips to ensure roadworthiness and compliance with safety standards.
- Monitor temperature-controlled shipments to maintain quality and prevent spoilage.
- Maintain accurate logs, reports, and documentation, including mileage, fuel usage, and delivery confirmations.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, warehouse staff, and customers to coordinate schedules and resolve issues.
- Report any vehicle defects, accidents, or delays promptly to management.
- Maintain a clean and organized truck interior and exterior.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Valid CDL Class A license with a clean driving record.
- Experience operating refrigerated trucks and understanding of temperature-sensitive cargo.
- Knowledge of DOT regulations and trucking industry safety standards.
- Strong time management and route planning skills.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions on the road.
- Good communication skills to interact with dispatch, warehouse teams, and clients.
Experience:
- Minimum of 1–2 years of OTR refrigerated truck driving experience preferred.
- Experience with long-haul routes, delivering perishable goods, or similar freight transportation roles is a plus.
Working Hours:
- OTR (Over-the-Road) position with variable hours based on delivery schedules.
- Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and extended trips as required.
- Average driving schedule may include 2–3 weeks on the road with return home periods depending on route assignment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong mechanical aptitude to perform basic truck inspections and maintenance.
- Ability to handle physically demanding tasks, such as loading/unloading cargo when necessary.
- Excellent navigation and route planning skills.
- Ability to adapt to changing schedules, weather conditions, and road challenges.
