Job Summary
Western Express is seeking a skilled and safety-conscious CDL Flatbed Driver to join our dynamic transportation team. In this role, you will be responsible for transporting goods efficiently and securely using flatbed trucks, ensuring timely deliveries while maintaining the highest standards of safety and compliance. The ideal candidate is dependable, experienced in handling flatbed loads, and committed to excellent customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate a flatbed commercial truck, including pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
- Load, secure, and unload cargo using proper techniques to prevent damage.
- Follow all federal, state, and company safety regulations and DOT guidelines.
- Plan routes efficiently to meet delivery schedules.
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, mileage, and cargo documentation.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, warehouse personnel, and customers.
- Perform basic maintenance checks on vehicles and report any mechanical issues promptly.
- Exhibit professionalism and provide exceptional service to clients.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Valid CDL Class A license with a clean driving record.
- Proven experience driving flatbed trucks and handling cargo safely.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state transportation regulations.
- Ability to lift heavy loads and operate equipment such as chains, binders, and tarps.
- Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to safety and attention to detail.
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years of CDL flatbed driving experience preferred.
- Experience in long-haul or regional freight is a plus.
- Familiarity with flatbed load securing techniques and equipment.
Working Hours
- Full-time position with flexible schedules based on routes.
- May require overnight travel or extended time on the road depending on assignments.
- Availability to work weekends or holidays as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Comprehensive knowledge of flatbed truck operation and load securing.
- Ability to read and understand maps, GPS, and electronic logs.
- Strong mechanical aptitude for vehicle inspections and minor troubleshooting.
- Exceptional decision-making skills under road and delivery pressures.
- Ability to work independently and adapt to dynamic schedules.
