Job Summary
Saia LTL Freight is seeking a reliable and skilled CDL Local P&D (Pickup & Delivery) Driver to join our dynamic team. This role is ideal for drivers who take pride in delivering outstanding customer service while ensuring safe, timely, and efficient transportation of freight within assigned local routes. The CDL Local P&D Driver will operate company vehicles, manage schedules, and maintain accurate delivery records, all while adhering to federal and state transportation regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate a company vehicle to perform local pickup and delivery of freight.
- Ensure on-time delivery and collection of goods, maintaining high standards of customer service.
- Load and unload freight safely, using proper handling techniques to avoid damage.
- Verify delivery documentation, obtain signatures, and report any discrepancies or damages.
- Maintain accurate records of mileage, fuel usage, and delivery logs.
- Perform daily vehicle inspections and report any maintenance or safety issues.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers, warehouse personnel, and customers.
- Comply with all federal, state, and company safety regulations, including DOT guidelines.
- Assist in resolving customer inquiries or delivery issues promptly and professionally.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Valid CDL Class A or B license with a clean driving record.
- Knowledge of local roads, routes, and traffic patterns.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to lift heavy items (up to 50 lbs) and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Familiarity with transportation safety protocols and DOT regulations.
Experience
- Minimum of 1–2 years of professional driving experience, preferably in LTL, P&D, or freight delivery.
- Experience with route planning and time-sensitive deliveries is a plus.
- Prior experience with freight handling equipment, such as pallet jacks and lift gates, is advantageous.
Working Hours
- Full-time position with standard local routes.
- Typically Monday through Friday, with occasional Saturday shifts as required.
- Hours may vary based on delivery schedules and operational needs.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- In-depth knowledge of safe driving practices and vehicle maintenance.
- Ability to operate GPS and routing software for efficient deliveries.
- Strong problem-solving skills to handle unexpected route or delivery challenges.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions on the road.
- Attention to detail in handling freight, documentation, and customer interactions.
