Job Summary
Oceanic Welding Services is seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Underwater Welder to join our elite offshore operations team. The ideal candidate will perform welding, cutting, and fabrication tasks underwater to support a variety of offshore projects, including oil rigs, ships, and underwater infrastructure. This role requires precision, technical expertise, and adherence to strict safety and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform underwater welding and cutting tasks, including MIG, TIG, and SMAW processes, on offshore structures and equipment.
- Inspect and repair metal structures, pipelines, and other underwater installations according to engineering specifications.
- Maintain and operate welding equipment safely in underwater environments.
- Conduct pre- and post-dive inspections, ensuring all work meets quality and safety standards.
- Collaborate with project engineers, divers, and offshore teams to execute assignments efficiently.
- Document work progress, maintain accurate records, and report any anomalies or hazards encountered.
- Ensure compliance with all industry safety regulations, including OSHA, DNV, and ABS standards.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Professional certification in underwater welding (e.g., AWS D3.6 or equivalent).
- Commercial diving certification (e.g., IMCA, HSE, or equivalent).
- Strong proficiency in both dry and wet welding techniques.
- Knowledge of underwater cutting, brazing, and inspection methods.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and welding blueprints.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong physical stamina and ability to work in challenging offshore conditions.
Experience
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in underwater welding, preferably in offshore environments.
- Proven track record of completing welding projects on oil rigs, ships, pipelines, or similar structures.
- Experience with safety-critical procedures and offshore compliance protocols is highly desirable.
Working Hours
- Offshore deployment may require rotation schedules (e.g., 4 weeks on / 4 weeks off).
- Flexible working hours depending on project deadlines and operational requirements.
- Extended shifts may occur in urgent project scenarios.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Deep understanding of welding metallurgy and underwater welding techniques.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and dexterity for precision welding in challenging conditions.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with offshore teams.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and in confined, underwater environments.
