Aetna, a leading health insurance provider, is seeking a compassionate and highly skilled Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team as a Virtual Assistant. This role is perfect for experienced healthcare professionals who wish to leverage their clinical expertise in a non-traditional, fully remote setting. The Aetna RN Virtual Assistant will play an essential role in assisting with the management and coordination of patient care, supporting both clinical and administrative teams, and helping ensure high-quality healthcare delivery through innovative virtual solutions.
As an Aetna RN Virtual Assistant, you will use your clinical knowledge to assist with patient inquiries, document clinical information, help manage care plans, and provide virtual health consultations—all while working from the comfort of your home. Key Responsibilities
- Patient Support: Provide virtual support to patients by answering medical queries, providing care advice, and offering patient education on healthcare-related topics.
- Care Coordination: Assist in developing and managing personalized care plans for patients, ensuring they understand their treatment options and follow-up requirements.
- Clinical Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of patient interactions, medical histories, and care plans using Aetnas electronic health systems.
- Collaboration: Work closely with physicians, care teams, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless care transitions and optimized patient outcomes.
- Telehealth Consultations: Conduct remote assessments and telehealth consultations for routine medical inquiries or chronic disease management.
- Administrative Tasks: Support administrative operations including appointment scheduling, follow-up calls, and coordination of necessary tests or referrals.
- Case Management Support: Assist in managing complex care cases, providing guidance, and coordinating patient care across various health service providers.
- Health Education: Provide guidance on disease prevention, medication management, and lifestyle modifications to promote overall health and wellness.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN): Active RN license in the United States.
- Experience in Nursing: Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in areas such as acute care, telemedicine, case management, or care coordination.
- Telehealth Experience: Prior experience with telehealth, virtual consultations, or remote care delivery is highly desirable.
- Technical Proficiency: Comfortable using digital tools, telehealth platforms, and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Strong Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey complex medical information in an accessible manner.
- Problem-Solving Abilities: Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to make informed decisions and troubleshoot patient concerns remotely.
- Customer-Focused: A compassionate approach to patient care with the ability to build rapport with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Experience
- At least 2 years of clinical nursing experience (required).
- Experience in telemedicine or virtual healthcare delivery is a plus.
- Prior experience working with health insurance providers or in a managed care environment is highly beneficial.
- Familiarity with Aetnas insurance policies, benefits structure, and network of healthcare providers is preferred.
Working Hours
- Full-time, 40 hours per week.
- Flexible hours with opportunities for shifts across different time zones to accommodate patient needs.
- Some evening and weekend availability may be required based on patient and team schedules.

- Clinical Knowledge: Thorough understanding of nursing principles, medical terminology, and healthcare practices.
- Telemedicine: Knowledge of telehealth best practices, video consultation etiquette, and virtual care technologies.
- Organizational Skills: Excellent time management and organizational abilities to manage multiple patients and tasks remotely.
- Data Security: Knowledge of HIPAA compliance and maintaining patient confidentiality in a virtual environment.
- Technology Skills: Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, EHR systems, and telehealth platforms (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams).
- Collaboration Skills: Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a virtual team environment.
